I loved—LOVED—KISS as a kid.  They were my first "favorite band"—I had the iron-on T-shirts with my name on the back & everything.  I was born in '70, & their music was/is just so simple & straightforward, practically tailor made for kids.  And the simplistic lyrics, which I now see for their vapidity, are just right

If I didn't have puke breath, I'd kiss you!

I agree in principle, but crappy remakes don't erase great originals.  Yeah, there will always be the ignorant who see the remake & don't know the original*, but the original will always be there, & the enlightened can always educate the ignorant.

Not lost—just a gem.

I haven't re-watched Watchmen—I only just saw it in the theater.  I've been planning to see it again eventually, but now I'll make a point of checking out the director's cut specifically.  Thanks for the tip, @avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus!

I haven't seen it in years, but between this article & another recent mention here at the good ol' AV Club (a) I'm reminded anew how terrific it is, & (b) I realize I simply have to see it again soon.

Damn, that's cruel!  Probably would have killed me outright.

@Sam Adams:  Fuck yeah, The House With the Clock in Its Walls!  I had an awesome 6th grade language arts teacher who read books aloud to us, including this one.  Just terrifically atmospheric.  I haven't read it since, but have often thought I really should.  Thanks for putting it back on my radar!

Just based on what some of you guys have said over the years, & a little online research, I don't think I have the stones to actually read Lovecraft.  I know I should, & I think some day I will, but I'ma scairt ta.

I was surprised by how creepy Bram Stoker's Dracula was-not scary so much as unsettling.  The Exorcist, on the other hand, scared the shit out of me.
