I agree that Jaws & The Godfather are prime examples of  the movie improving on the book, but I would defend The Godfather as a better book than Jaws.

Did anybody else have the Jaws game back in the '70s?  You had to hook stuff out of the shark's mouth, & the more you removed the likelier it was to snap shut on you.  (The junk weighed it down & it was tripped by a rubber band.  Here's a look: http://plaidstallions.blogs… )  Gotta wonder about the minds that thought…
