I think it's a pretty terrible joke, though.  Sorkin really should've come up with a better rejoinder for Dan, or, alternatively, let him be flustered in some other way.

Yeah, Josh Charles's charm and his ability to seem respectful of Rebecca, despite Dan behaving creepily, takes him a long way.  But, still, this was not Dan being awesome, as detailed by other commenters below.
