Bleach was the first thing that came to my mind too. It's pretty much terrible - nothing but drawn out, poorly animated fight sequences and cheesy gags. But for some reason I've watched every episode and…I like it. I don't know why.

I actually just finished reading this a couple of days ago. I hadn’t made up my mind if I wanted to pick
up the next book or not – I liked the art, and the story was engaging, but I
found the writing to be incredibly clunky – does it get better later on?

To be fair to her, the book is pretty funny - she's a funny writer, and I liked a lot of it. But I really don't think she was joking about the "women can't really be friends" thing - and unfortunately that's not a terribly uncommon attitude.
