Agreed. It was still fun to listen to, but not a classic. It seemed unfocused to me - maybe that was a side effect of having more people than usual?
I would classify it as "okay".

His Dark materials is so, so good. I still get mad when I think of how the Golden Compass movie turned out.
Another kids series ruined by a shitty first movie - A Series of Unfortunate Events.

I love John Hodgman, but he badly needs a new podcast. I can't stand listening to his smirky, painfully self-aware hipster guests anymore. I haven't listened to this week's show yet, but last week I ended up just fast-forwarding (or whatever it's called now. Shut up, I'm old)to the end to hear the chatty bits with…

Is Watership Down really marketed as a YA book? It doesn't seem like one to me - some of the themes are pretty adult, and there are some real political critiques in there that seem to be aimed at an older audience.
I feel like it's getting tossed in with YA because it's about bunnies….

You're probably right, they should have just called it John Carter Needs Moms.

Montypark, it's pretty terrible.
The premise is that Martian men and woman used to raise their children together, but now the Martian moms all have careers and leadership positions, so they are terrible mothers (of course!) and have to resort to kidnapping mothers from earth to raise their children. Oh and the fathers…

There's a lot of praise for Taylor Kitsch's performance in this article. I haven't seen the movie, but if this was good role for him, it's not coming across in these clips. All I'm getting is "this John Carter fellow is apparently incapable of closing his mouth all the way" .

Definitely his wedding night. Which was poorly advertised, and should really have been called Wedding Night of Mars.

Way more teenage gay sex too.

It's not like the movie was creepy, sexist, boring, and hideously animated or anything…
