Can we not leave a great cartoonist in peace?
I know everybody loves Peanuts but Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side were the strips that made me laugh consistently growing up and still do.

Why would anyone want to do the same thing Disney did with public domain material?

While I stopped caring about events and crossovers some time ago, Ed Brubaker deserves mention for kicking ass and taking names with his work on Daredevil, Captain America, Incognito and more.
