Water for Elephants is better than most of the other films in this list by a mile. Not a masterpiece, but fairly well done as an old-school melodrama.

I liked the Lumen storyline/Julia Stiles. The issue was with the overall Johnny Lee Miller serial killer group storyline. It's when the convenience of the plot twists and pointlessness of every main character who wasn't Dexter or Deb became really obvious.

He's not a good looking dude. Seriously, if they were going to add a pointless horndog character, they could've at least hired a hottie.

I maintain that Betty is a great character, some of the best stuff in seasons 1-3 revolved around her storylines and I think JJ is great in the role (which is not the same as saying she's a great actress). The episode with her and Don at the camp had some of my favourite scenes of the season, so I really hope she gets

The problem isn't that the a Superman film is serious, it's that the story they've told is so overblown, preposterous, and self-consciously 'epic', that I can't help but NOT take it seriously, which clearly goes against the tone they're going for.

Surely almost all dramas are types of soap operas when you get down to it? Yes Game of Thrones has additional magic, and dragons (…and world building, and intriguing characters, and relatively complex long-form plotting), isn't that enough?

For my money, Inception's main draw is that visceral thrill you get when you watch it for the first time. On re-watches, when you're not so caught up in the excitement of 'what happens next', its world building and concepts seem so shallow and half-baked. But then I find that with most of Nolan's films…

Yup. The writing, specifically, is what is so bad about it as well. It really just seems like Fellowes is not trying. Having said that, I gave up a few episodes into Season 2, I don't know if it got better.

Did I miss Trudy in this episode? Alison Brie was listed as 'Guest Staring' in the opening credits. (Sorry if this has already been asked)
