TALE OF TWO CITIES nearly happened with Mel Gibson in the lead until he decided to make BRAVEHEART instead.

This film has been in development for a number of years, and Billy Bob Thornton was previously attached to play the lead. It sounds very interesting and screenwriter Pat Rushin published a terrific book of short stories in the 90's.

I saw De Palma once at the American Cinematheque watching VERTIGO in 70mm. It was a nice run-in, especially considering that he basically remade it as OBSESSION.

LaRouche-ites scare the crap out of me. NO, YOU MAY NOT STUFF YOUR FLYERS INTO MY PURSE. Creepy fucks. They make L. Ron Paulies seem like sane, rational people.

FAMILY VIEWING (1987) and THE ADJUSTER (1991) are masterpieces. Egoyan's output has been a little shakey in recent years, but I'll still give him the benefit of the doubt.

Cormier gave Keith Gordon major grief for changing the ending, but I think it works fantastically well. I do miss Jerry's line to Goober, though:

I've always wondered if Cormier intended to write a third book about Trinity and Jerry Renault, as BEYOND THE CHOCOLATE WAR ends on such an uncertain note.

Fuck you! GOOD GOD'S URGE is a very underrated record.

Most film students are, unfortunately, insufferable morons who care little about films that were made before they were born. I saw a beautiful, restored print of Lubitsch's TROUBLE IN PARADISE at UCLA and it provoked a mass exodus when they realized it was in monochrome.
