It's a great movie! Philip Kaufman's script is ace, and I wish he'd been able to direct it.

Hampton Fancher's 1999 feature THE MINUS MAN definitely deserves more recognition. It also had the best American trailer of the last 20 years or more:  http://www.youtube.com/watc…

Irving's always been extremely sensitive to LGBT issues. I adore Roberta in THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP, and homosexuality is dealt with frankly and with tenderness in THE HOTEL NEW HAMPSHIRE (which I've always felt was very underrated).

The shot of Kevin rolling away from him like a bowling pin in the basketball scene never fails to crack me up.

Did the Los Angeles Times ever run this strip? I've never seen it in a newspaper, but I've read scores of articles online about how hilariously misanthropic it is.

I met a 90+ year old man at an adult day health care center who was both Jewish and strongly opposed to WWII, going so far as to even participate in protests against America's involvement in it while he was an undergrad. He was a great guy to talk with.

REX THE RUNT is probably my favorite Aardman production. It's unbelievable inventive and manic.

THE KNACK…AND HOW TO GET IT and THE BED-SITTING ROOM are tremendous achievements. Absolutely incredible adaptations of stage plays that both feel extremely fresh and subversive decades later. The cinematography in BED-SITTING is stunning to see on celluloid.

I heartily recommend checking out Sidney Lumet and Gore Vidal's bizarre adaptation of Tennessee Williams' play THE SEVEN DESCENTS OF MYRTLE, which was filmed as LAST OF THE MOBILE HOT-SHOTS. The cast is terrific, and it features an interracial, incestutous three-way scene that you just don't see in movies nowadays.

God, Aronofsky looks awful with that moustache.

No!

The man's done several features, dozens of shorts, a graphic novel, commercials, attends film festivals constantly and just published a hardcover retrospective of his life's work and you're accusing him of being lazy?

The Bill Plympton couch bit was wonderful. Like the John Kricfalusi and Banksy intros, it was far more creative and amusing than anything in the episode proper.

I'll take 'em over garbage like Bon Iver.

If you get the chance to see this touring retrospective of Hertzfeldt's work, don't hesitate to buy tickets ASAP. The new 35mm prints look gorgeous, and he's a very entertaining and articulate interview subject.

CORPSE BRIDE was an abomination. The plot gradually turned into a remake of BEETLEJUICE, the songs sucked and the characters had no personalities. What's the point of making a stop-motion film if it's going to look so clean and seamless that it might as well be all-CG?

ET TU, BABE is probably the funniest American novel of the 90's.

I take very special care of my Kate Beaton/Hark! A Vagrant Brontë sisters garden party shirt. I used to have a REN AND STIMPY shirt from the early 90's that had extra fabric around Stimpy's snot/boogers.

She's a phenomenal actress. I've seen her on and off-Broadway many times since the mid-80's and she always delivers.
