yeah … the outcry started well before the movie was released. in the bond case we're all discussing here, no one is even being cast, yet everyone is flipping out insisting that bond must be white and straight

i guess i must have been confused when you said that having a female boss who insults you is routine for 'all emplyed males'
i'm comparing their fanbases ridiculous reaction to any kind of change, the hyperbolic cries of 'we must stay true to the character' to cover racism and sexism
actually you've been arguing pretty hard that black people, as well as women and gays, can't play james bond
oh, so now women can headline their own franchises?
i think the point is that female characters rarely get to headline their own franchises under the mistaken belief that nobody would pay money to see it
the only people still harping about obama's blackness are the fox news people. considering the amount of minority support he's gotten in elections, he's obviously black enough for the community
if you don't know about hollywood's history of changing minority and female characters into white men, then yes you are
so one of my examples of 'long running franchises' doesn't count, the rest are dismissed without a word
you seem to think that blackness is not just a physical description but a mental one as well. would black people object to super cool james bond being black? why?
well lets see, you've got star trek which has been around since the 60s, doctor who has been around just as long, and they're also floating the idea of a female/person of color doctor
its been a while since i watched blade, but i don't recall that his blackness was central to his character
so its not about the money anymore, its about appeasing an older, more conservative fanbase
which opinion? the guy who called all av club commenters 'PC zombies" and teenagers with no substance or the guy who called that opinion bigoted?
that kind of highlights the issue at hand, the thought that women or people of color can't headline a franchise
looks like we've been infiltrated by the MRAs again …
maybe examine the inverse …. james bond is the epitome of manliness, ultra suave, always able to charm the ladies, etc
now imagine a woman portraying those attributes in the same manner that james bond is …
wait, are we sure that women are capable enough to convert matter to energy? don't they like need a man to do that?
hey look everyone! an old man is talking!
