That Hill Street Blues episode was devastating. Lucy Thomas' scene, when she recalls how he was the rock in the middle of the craziness of the squad room, was fantastic. And Travanti's simple line, when they spread his ashes: "…Phil."

sitting in the chair, as Scully wakes up, mouthing something silently… still gives me chills.

It's the "how was I?" at the end…

I'll save my applause until they do it with the Peter Sellars version.

I'd say the exact opposite - sounds like your describing the 60's Batman show.
As Chris Reeve noted, you really don't have to make big poses when you're wearing a superman suit (ahem - my avatar) - keep it small and let the suit do the acting.

hmmm, glasses….

I'm in. Looking forward to reigniting my Joyce crush.

woah - that was the line-up? Simon and Simon would be background for me but still…

I love travianti's reaction when he hears: (smirking) "I thought you where rich…"

dead heat between travianti and asner

Really good question, that I've often wondered. In fact I'm always amazed that the amazing actors on Hill Street Blues didn't all become big deals after. St. Elsewhere has a better graduation record!

That off duty intervention was stunning - still one of the first scenes I think of when I think of HSB.
Travanti did a tv movie on Ed Murrow that I thought was really good. But I was a huge fan, so…

Oh hell yeah. Total crush. Those final scenes, with them in the bath…
(Actually, they where the ideal couple - watched this show as a kid and thought "that's what I want, when i grow up."

After watching his partner flirting with a school girl: "I got three words for you: Statue. Tory. Rape."

actually… only about half of those are symmetrical (a composition balanced on both sides) - the rest just use a center-line as the point of composition.

At the end, it gets positively Hopper-esque…

ok, I know I'm three years behind on this, but I just saw this movie and came here for the obvious "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" discussion - and there isn't one. Really, AV club? You invented that trope!
…is this thing on?…

SO DO IT!
