That's exactly what I was thinking about - and, to a lesser extent, Gladiator. Haven't seen the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven, but if it's "Duelist"-esque, I'll give it a go.

@avclub-997c221538094d134659141cf61d51e3:disqus & @hornacek:disqus you are both correct: slip of the finger, I meant the first movie, "Alien". We do indeed have to be precise.
Aliens is awesome, Blade Runner is fascinating but flawed, but THIS movie is the reason Ridley gets a pass when he announces a new project. No matter how crap it sounds, somewhere, deep in there, is the guy who made Duelists - he can't be lost forever, can he?

Insecure? Rude? Y'all need to get out more. The rudest day in To is like a Sunday…
you are correct @avclub-1e850f6bef0bc36ca1f64e95ff1cbd2e:disqus - I'm a huge Goodman fan and that was unfair.
Though he doesn't "sing" much on the Monsters Inc song - I assume he was in character as a huge, furry monster. (Typecast again)
Nope - just saw the 3D rerelease, and it's Billy Crystal and John Goodman singing over the credits. Sorry "singing".
oh god, that's waaaay better (and I love Randy).
So, is it ok now to say that Family Guy sucks?
If you really want to cry, dig this: the song that beat it to the Oscar? Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan.
We're having the same conversation further up the thread. The New Yorker film critic agrees (but not in a good way)
When he crushes the priest's cross after James Mason explains it's only as powerful as the priest's faith? Terrifying.

I call it "porn" exactly because it WASN'T an examination, just an empty recreation (with added Godzilla.)
Anthony Lane says it better (of course) - third paragraph of his review:

Two thoughts on Cloverfield:
the trailer was better than the movie (really, what more did you need?);
the movie was 9/11-porn. The deliberate recreation of images from the attack on Lower Manhattan was astonishingly offensive. One of the producers even admitted to it.

then I hope you watched the shit out of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Actually, that IS a cool story (bro)!
Thanks for confirming that Goodman is as cool as I've always hoped he'd be. (He's a terrific guest on Letterman.)
Taming of the Shrew with Anne Hathaway as Bianca and Rosemarie DeWitt as Kate would work for me.
In so many ways.
