A kid in my class tried to sell me his old 2400 baud modem in the late 80s. I couldn't even understand what he was talking about. He said I could get files over the phone from this kid down the street, and I was like, 'well, I can just walk over there. What's the point?'

I don't think that girl has ever actually heard a dial-up modem. She forgot the 'de-do, de-do,' part at the end, followed by solid 'shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' that signaled the sweet moment of sign-on.

Weaksauce is one word? I guess that makes sense, if you're using the phrase as an adjective… "This weak sauce is totally weaksauce." I like it. Keep innovating, AV Club!

I guess I can see that. He didn't go into it, and I thought maybe it was something to do with merchandising, but that makes sense. Kind of like how I do my boss's job, my job, and portions of other peoples' jobs, but I get paid about a third what my boss does. It rankles a bit.

Someone else may have mentioned this, but he was on the WTF podcast a month or so ago, and mentioned that he felt like he was getting 'ripped off' by the show, somehow. I was kind of disappointed to find out he's as prickly as he is.

Definitely. I wouldn't read it solely for the dated stories, though they can be kind of funny. There's a lot to be said for keeping your shit together and being nice to people as much as you can.

Ha… I always felt bad for him, for some reason. I think it was his follow-up to Electric Avenue, and it was just terrible. And then he went bye-bye. Chance blown, Eddie Grant!

I've been reading 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' by Dale Carnegie. It's anachronistic in too many ways to count, but the advice is generally still solid. There are all kinds of anecdotes about Taft and Teddy Roosevelt, how you should treat your wife (gasp) like a person, the Japanese are real, etc.

Yeah, I'm always excited to see them get some press. Though a few weeks ago I saw a weird Buzzfeed article about them that just felt shoehorned into the site. Still, the new album's pretty good!

Still, pretty cool to learn from someone like that. I used to take guitar lessons from an old scenester burnout, and I wound up terrible with no good stories.

Wow, that's awesome. Fear was never one of my top punk bands, but that's a solid drummer to be taking lessons from.

Watt is one of my personal heroes. In the late fall of 2001, I was going through a pretty heavy period of grief. Some friends told me Watt was going to be playing in town, and I dragged myself out to see it. He's been playing so long, it's literally like watching someone walk or talk. It really kind of restored some

You lucky scaffnet, you. I was only 11 when D. Boon died, so no Minutemen shows for me.

Yeah, I don't know! He's a funny guy, so it seems like he could get work. Maybe he decided to produce or direct, like Fred Savage.

Totally what I was thinking!

Angel is okay, but the New Girl's sister bugs the fuck out of me. Literally every time she talks I do a 'mehmehmehmeh' whiny thing under my breath. My wife gets mad if she hears me. I also liked seeing Sam Weir on the show, but now he's dead.

It's so hard to let go of all the time my daughter spent watching Hannah Montana and listening to her earlier solo albums. SO. HARD. But I have to admit this is good.

It just occurred to me that Miley Cyrus has a kind of Riff Randell thing going on that I find obnoxious. At the same time, this is a great song, and she obviously has great taste in collaborators.

Fair enough.
