Maybe. I liked the film okay, but thought the pacing and blocking sometimes suffered for the long takes rather than the long takes being in service of the pacing and blocking. Maybe I just missed the point.

Naw. Naw to all of that. (IMO)

Interesting! I wish we could learn more about stuff like that in bend the scenes discussion, but it's usually less available.

Those scenes just made me hunk "Oh they are hiding an edit"

That's what I was thinking too. People need to chill.

Okay fine, but can we all admit that the 2 or 3 shots where the camera just idly sets on a wall or a sky or follow actors down dimly lit stairs made every single one of us think to ourselves, "They're hiding an edit."
For better or worse, they reminded us that there was a camera and a post process.

Word up.

I thought the point of it was to make people pay attention to the movie and make everyone look like they were looking for their mark, haha.

I wholly agree. I don't agree with him a lot, but I think his writing is honest and informed. He's less likely to fall all over himself buying into hype and pomp than many of his peers.

Oh c'mon, do you really want someone to say "In my opinion" at the end of every sentence a review? Of course it's their opinion. This isn't a video game site, we can take it.

I agree on that.

I may have misread the review, but it seems like maybe we're attributing the flashbacks to Boyle? Do we know those weren't in Sorkin's script? Or are they less "flashback-y" than I maybe imagine? Mostly just curious.

Everybody! Quick!! An old man and a 13 year old are fighting on the internet!!!

Well if he says so!

As a person who has lived in Texas for 10 years, I don;t have the slightest clue what you are talking about, but I am a vegetarian and Texas is huge (culturally it's closer to being 5 different states really) so what do I know?

Yeah, I've noticed the same, though I don't think it's new. I've had to basically adjust my expectations that almost all TV club grades are a full letter grade higher than makes any sense to me. Which makes an A+ tricky, haha.

He talked directly about this and disagrees *shrug*

I mean, it IS a waste of time. Mos entertainment is a waste of time. Watching game shows is a waste of time… but your argument here is kiiiinda reductive. That's like saying playing chess is just moving a piece or playing poker is just shuffling cards. People can be good at games of logic and we readily accept James

I feel like it was only a year ago that this guy was saying that he was more interested in directing than being Captain America. Did I imagine that? Or did he get directing out of his system?

"EXCUSE ME MR POLANSKI CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF ELVIS DID THE SAME SHIT AS YOU? I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE I CAN ASK THIS NEXT QUESTION!"
