It may be churlish to claim this after so much earnest discussion, but this may be taking a dumb firstie attempt too seriously.

Dammit, @avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus…of course you're right.

Well, there's no accounting for taste. I prefer the consumerist camp of Day of the Dead or, for the really dark stuff, the end-of-it-all atmosphere of survivalist dread from Dawn of the Dead. Night of the Living Dead is no doubt a very significant film, but IMO it suffers from some of lame horror tropes (the passive,

The first in a genre ain't always the best.

There's a sub-question here, one that may sound dickish, even if it's not meant to be. The semi-successful rock band—the band that sells some, but isn't Aerosmith—can console itself on the grounds that even if the audiences aren't as eager for "product" as they might've once been, their albums still have an artistic

The guy speaks in paragraphs. [Insert horrible "too articulate to be a rapper" gag here.]

Did anyone here read Solar? I've read a few of McEwan's books (Atonement, On Chesil Beach, Saturday), but the premise for that one just sounded so staggeringly pompous and rife with Important Novel Syndrome that it made me embarrassed for Ian. I'd be happy to hear otherwise.

Yeah, it was pretty great. It also solved the narrative problem of "how to incorporate dolly shots into a found footage film," which has to merit some sort of recognition.

Man, I'd have thought The Master would've had the "weird, scary, boring" vote all tied up. It's good to have the input of some extreme re-viewers on this.
