I've read Although and loved it—but it's a quick read. You'd probably finish it in a weekend. This new thing looks more like Nonfiction Bestseller fare, while the prior entry was (as you probably already know) just one long interview, a few days in the life of DFW at the height of his success, articulating directly

I really love DFW, but I've never made it through Infinite Jest. I've read all the non-fiction—even that factually-below-par math book—all the short stories, The Pale King…but I just can't get through IJ. I got about 400 pages into the thing, and I put it down and it just doesn't seem worth my time to wade through

Wait…what? Is that an "Aboriginal thing" that my gang never caught wind of? Is there really a "see no dead people" something going on?

The Proposition is one of those movies that feels ultra-violent, even though I doubt there's more actual onscreen violence than in most films of its type. It's more that it's able to create spaces of prolonged tension between the outbursts that makes what's there so effective. Did the version you saw come with a

I watched Matinee with my parents when I was a kid, and they didn't get it. In fact, "that Mant movie" has become their standard for movies that we shouldn't watch together ever since.

Oh come on…can't you take Altered States as a goofy lark? The movie seems to take itself too seriously by half, but it has that adorable countenance of a sad child who can't figure out the solution to a very complicated problem and so is forced to make up a bullshit explanation on the spot. If I remember correctly,

Deep is happy for sad people.

I wonder if later versions will come out uncensored. I didn't see it on TV, but did anyone see how they dealt with Jesse and Friends visiting a strip club on Walter's money, first time out? I ask because the version I re-watched on Netflix was definitely not TV-14 material.

The Passion is an incredibly effective movie that promulgates a vision of Christianity that I'm gonna guess neither you nor I would want to endorse. The Birth analogy is apt.
