My first Bond was Moonraker, man that Jaws freaked the shit out of me, which is funny looking back, although totally understandable for an under 10 year old, come on, the dude had metal teeth!

Sorry gelbee09, won't let me respond below your comment below mine.

But they are totally ours, Australia get your greedy mitts off!

we didn't want him and made him move to Australia … so he's Australian, owns a rugby league team and everything

Nice list of NZ movies but what about The Piano? Remeber sweet little Anna Paquin winning the oscar?  Does anyone believe that movies are always telling us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth …. for reals?

Dear Good, the thought of an Elizabethan Jar-Jar Binks … the horror

There was a Paul Schofield version of Lear which was pretty damn good. Been a long time since I saw it but definitely in black and white and lots of snow and vaguely nordic/viking (maybe?) stages. I do remember it as being very compelling.

weird, I want to reply to hac51 but it won't let me! One of the saddest things about Rob Hall was hearing that he made a satelite call to his pregnant wife back in New Zealand from the mountain when he knew he wasn't going to be able to get back down, what a monumental screw up that day was. Read into Thin Air on a

Saw it, thought it was interesting but not great. The black and white scenes seemed to work better. Made it feel like an old movie. Did wonder how they had managed to get permission to film in the prison as the cameras did seem to go all over the place, seemed pretty clear it was all scripted and not a documentary.

I saw this during a festival (and amongst 20 other films) and its the one that I remember at strange moments. It reminded me of Jane Campion films and I loved that it didn't tell me everything but let things gradually reveal themselves. I was pretty much on the edge of my seat all the way through as they have to

The whole 'sad look' conversation is interesting. I'm not 100% sure but my reading at the time was that their relationship works in isolation, in the 'woods' which is their special place and where they don't have to confront their different views on the world. Oh and hi Danny, hope your arm is feeling better?

I have to say that this season still has me sitting on the edge of the couch going OMG (well only in my internal voice of course, cause out loud would be weird). I really don't care about the crazy plotlines as much as you all seem to. Only a crazy plot line would ever get Carrie and Abu Nazir in the same room trying

totally this^. Great filmmaking and while some content might be lost, class and race issues are pretty universal around the world. Also unversal are issues around security and fear of crime. Some wonderful family dynamics also, including the bored housewife whose children are given private chinese lessons, part of the

Saw this recently and loved it, great use of soundscape to rachet up the tension. The filmmaker was at the screening, had the softest voice so didn't hear too much about it but he spoke about the old black and white photos at the beginning and what they meant.
