That was the sad ending to 20 Feet from Stardom: current musicians tend not to use backup singers. There's less vocal harmony. Less soul in music. Fewer jobs for them now.

Robert Plant will be 66 on August 20th.

We watched 20 feet from Stardom last night about backup singers in the 1960's and 70's — mostly black women who learned how to sing in church. Such great music. Highly recommend. They just don't make music like that anymore.

But everyone knows that rock obtained perfection in 1974. It's a scientific fact.

"Now watch me hit this drive."

I'm good. I like that you do this with the Weekend Box Office each Monday.

I cold brew green tea for my afternoon pick up. Just put a green tea bag into a cup of ice water, keep refilling through the afternoon for a mild caffeine buzz without the soda.

Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metal Church all have self-titled songs.
Do they count?

Metallica: Whiplash

I know. Damning with faint praise. But it's the truth. Every other sci-fi movie is brown and everyone wears a uniform. So boring.

Scarlett Johansson triple-feature:
Under the Skin: best of the three. Best use of music since Jaws.
Lucy: silly fun, great visuals.
Her: enjoyed the sets and costumes.

I like it. I've seen it several times. It doesn't change on multiple viewings. It's still the same movie when you rewatch it.

What about the Twinkie?

I had a comment banned when I wrote about a stupid Louis CK bit where he liked saying a word that rhymed with maggot.

Recommend "unwigged and unplugged."

Good for her.

They were the target audience. People cheered in the theater when I went.

"I shot up once in Reno, just to get high."

It can make kissing lead to pregnancy, too.
