I think this joke needs the dad to ask the mom to "strap it on."

Few if any Norwegian black metal guys are more famous than him. So what I am saying is… not necessarily.

I thought "Black" by Pearl Jam was just as obvious an omission… or have I been misinterpreting that song for 20 years?

They played at Coachella and I was really excited to see them until it was announced that they were playing a daytime set. Who schedules these guys in the middle of a hot day? Their theatrics demand an atmospheric nighttime backdrop. Not to mention I could imagine their makeup just melting off in that kind of heat.

Did they play Prayers for Rain and did RS hold the note on the last "rain" for an impossibly long time? That was always one of my favorite parts of seeing them. I really hope he's still doing that.

I tend to agree about the opening of Plainsong, but it should be said that the reason it's so great is that it sounds just like Joy Division's "Atmosphere" (only more lush, of course).

I was just looking for a post that listed Seventeen Seconds at #1 so I could give it a thumbs up. I grew up a massive Cure fan (Wish tour was my first concert of any kind), and though it was not my favorite record of theirs growing up, it's the one I most closely identify with as an adult, and the one I still revisit

I actually think John Belushi is the obvious choice.

i and 1, I think you make the best point so far in this thread about Klosterman's meaning. I recall reading his Grantland piece when it first ran, and the takeaway point that I got, which many in this thread are ignoring completely, is the idea that these "immersion critics" posit that their reading is not only

Setting aside the dubious merits of Bill Bellamy's VJ career… I saw his standup act live once in a fairly large venue (by touring comedy standards), and he was really good. Maybe not on Chappelle's or Rock's level, but certainly worthy of opening for them.

This guy's been riding my coattails forever.

Ditto on the pout-dancing (though I think I'm more of a mope-dancer myself), but I gave the edge to "Bulbform" for my best of 2012 mix.

For what it's worth, my grandfather knew Lefty Rosenthal and his wife (De Niro & Stone's real life counterparts) really well - better than you'd want to know them - and he mentioned to me multiple times that Stone captured Geri perfectly. I realize that if the performance doesn't work for you, it just doesn't work,

I think the Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me (both Stephen King, both novellas) are both better films than their written source material.

I shared this the last time AVC interviewed William Friedkin, but screw it. When I was a kid and my family first got a VCR, for a while we only owned two VHS tapes: Risky Business and To Live and Die in LA. So I watched it several times a week. Consequently, it colored my movie-related expectations for life. In case
