I thought the Brigadier part was really well done. Not only was it a touching memorial to one of the greatest characters, but it also (in universe) gave the Doctor another experience of mortality fitting with his pre-mortem-farewell arc.

I kinda think that Amy and River's conversation over whether killing someone in an alternate reality 'counts' was a kind of addressing whether River and the Doctor are married - the married in a reality that doesn't exist so…
