The generation that fought in WWII doesn't own "greatest generation?" Disappointing.

Agreed. Maye it's the 90s humor, but I watch this and just think that it should be way better than it is.

It's played pretty ambiguously but yeah, at a certain point that's supposed to be what happens. Susan George says that was the idea in her interview on the criterion disc.

Wasn't the purpose of the remake to have her not enjoy the rape, so we as an audience could learn once and for all that rape is bad? Anyway fuck that movie, no even if that wasn't the point.

Yeah Ronin is a lot of fun, even though Miller is a douchey neoconservative misanthrope. Also has anyone else with no sense of humor attempted satire?

On The Road is also way more conservative than people think, at the end it's basically clear that Dean is kind of a loser while Sal has grown up, moved on, matured or whatever. Basically it's the precursor for all these Apatow movies that wallow in the fun of immaturity, but end with dudes learning a lesson or

Yeah I'm glad someone mentioned Demolition Man. Maybe the most ridiculous movie of the 90s? Tho I guess it's also prophetic w/prez Schwarzenegger. I've had way too many conversations about how wiping your ass with shells would work.

Yummsh, you're ignoring KZ's point, which is totally legit, as well as conflating minorities w/animals (not to be the PC police, but really, dude?) Foxx may or may not be right to play Bond, but I don't see what's so wrong w/wanting it. Dude doesn't have the power to force studios to cast him or anything.

The "people playing dress up" element in Black Dahlia is kinda the point, Bucky's cynicism and tough talk is this act he puts on to hide genuine vulnerability. Appropriately, he can't pull it off with authority as he's in over his head and his world is spinning out of control.

Black Dahlia is a retardo-brilliant masterpiece.

Also the Governess in James' "Turn of the Screw" and any film adaptations.

The Dog in Peter Pan
Ok I can't remember the Dog's name, and I know many of you would defend the dog for being well intentioned or "competent for a dog" but fuck it, letting your charges be kidnapped by some charismatic stranger while you impotently bark to stop them represents a high level of incompetence. The Dad

So does Dino not count because he's known for being an actor as much as a singer? Because his performance as himself as a total skeeze in Kiss Me Stupid is way better than most of these.

That's a good point, Brighton Rock is total pulp (in the good sense)

Red Harvest is pretty much the best book ever, just the opening line about how everyone called Personville Poisonville is so evocative and gives so much information. Also the story is so simple and powerful that it's influenced large swaths of great mediocre and terrible art.

"Fall apart toward the end" is pretty unfair. Thompson's books stray from physical reality as their heroes/narrators become increasingly disconnected from the material world or lose their minds, but it's all intentional, it's not like Thompson just got lazy and wrote some shit that didn't make sense, the worlds are

I thought this was going to be about UGK 4 Life…
And then it's not only not included, but not discussed at all in the comments. Oh well. Anyway, it's a fantastic album and Pimp C really is the driving force behind it, with all the old school R & B production and obsession with the kind of gross aspects of sex.

They already made an adaptation of Maus. It's called An American Tale.

That gentleman sows his seed in the other melon patch.
