That power (stairs become escalators) seems useful to drunks, ladies (or men) in heels, drunk ladies or men in heels, those with physical disabilities not caused by alcohol or fashion, and the abject or contextually lazy. (Incidentally, escalator repair technicians and flash mob organizers, and likely many more ….)
