Remember when people used to brag about downloading this rarity off of Napster?

But, it is trite sentimentality. It's Concrete Angel over and over again. Isn't it lovely that the little girl that was beaten to death by her abusive mom is now a beautiful angel. Isn't Martina McBride beautiful singing on her grave. Isn't this uplifting for good people who believe in god and stuff?
It's hard to imagine this Fun guy performing Killer Queen or Bicycle Races. Maybe he'd do well at Don't Stop Me Now. I think it's really Queen's style of ganged chorus that you hear in songs like Killer Queen that gets the comparison.
I thought it reflected the "Everybody is in tune with how mind-blowing my thoughts are, don't ya know" ethos.
"Grunge" only makes sense in the vacuum of mainstream radio where just about every reference to 80s punk and post-punk simply did not exist. All of these bands were already around and charting quite well on the Billboard 200. When you look back the only things really connecting all these bands was the fact that they…
You'll often find the second Porno for Pyros in there. At least it has Mike Watt on bass.
"Alternative" was invented to deal with bands like The Cure, REM, New Order, My Blood Valentine, Primus, Butthole Surfers, Minutemen and many others that were had growing fan basis that didn't fit in with the established 70s rockers and pop music fans.
December feels like one of those non-songs that the producer Frankenstiens together with studio clippings and jam sessions that didn't go anywhere. If you break it down into to parts you're basically hearing what it sounds like when people try out equipment.
I remember how hard they worked at promoting See Spot Run… uggh..
One of those ubiquitous songs that pulled me in during my darkest hours (I was 15). I really don't remember much about the band despite the fact that I actually owned that album (yah, it was from Columbia House). I don't regret trying to hear as much music as possible, but, wow the mistakes I made.
We need Vanilla Ice to weigh in on this.
Could you guys refrain from mentioning "Loud Fast Rules" in the same context of a major label band making a pappy version of a punk record?
I'm already getting the impression that it's the Bieber-haters who don't understand that this is a joke.
Oh, yah, that's why I always felt that MGMT was soooo incredibly overrated. As if the 60s haven't already been revived ad nauseum by Beck, Air, Dee-Lite, and just about everybody else since 1990.
When it first came out I watched the first video with one my coworkers and could swear I'd heard the guitar solo before. I couldn't remember if it was the Final Countdown or Diamond Head's version of Am I Evil.
The best Metallica album is still Heartwork by Carcass.
What you're describing is a mainstream press problem instead of a rock music critic problem. The mainstream press is just as bad at limiting it's praise to a small handful of jazz musicians as well. Rock music criticism does have an awful tendency of trying to make everything sound significant but it certainly isn't…
reb1029 Flea can play. But, he's usually considered a great bassist because he plays funk. The problem with that he isn't a great funk bassist and the Chili Peppers are a terrible funk band. I still think Flea's best work was done backing Alanis Morrisette and Young MC.
I know a guy who constantly refers to the Chili Peppers as "a great American band that may be as influential as The Beatles." He even says this when I'm wearing a Funkadelic shirt.
If I had money I'd invest in tattoo removal.
