We had to read Manchild in the Promised Land in HS. Another excellent recommendation.

Yeah, that's a pretty severe choice. I might have them read the book instead of traumatizing them with the film.
I think high school is to young to really appreciate Confederacy. I read it in my mid-twenties and have been obsessed with it ever since.
The sexism in Heinlein is a real distraction, but I urge giving Stranger another try. His take on theology and humanism (minus the big tits) is really quite brilliant and more relevant now than ever.
Beh, Heller's Something Happened was a real chore to get through. Unless you're enamored with suburban office drone angst stories. The punchline? Nothing happens!
Let's be sure they know not to see the Manchurian remake. Not at all the same thing.
Yay, Snape! Galapagos is my favorite Vonnegut.
So, n*gger is offensive enough for deletion, but fag is perfectly acceptable??? Thanks, AVClub censorbot, you're really on the ball.
There's another great reference you already know, when Kyle is in love with the home-schooled girl, who doesn't know "what is, kiss?" Don't remember the Trek ep offhand (losing my geek skills), but they reproduce the dialogue plus the background music. Good times!
They had never seen a human before…
So, if the Talosians had never seen a human, why in the world didn't they reconstruct Vina to look more like themselves, you know 2 arms, 2 legs, symmetrically placed. For such an advanced race, did they really think that the left shoulder goes way up by the top of the head which…

Perhaps the amorality was exactly the point of COrange.
The wide screen version establishes at the beginning that all the actors have tops to their heads.
Sadly, if 2001 is not seen on a theater screen, there's just no way to properly assess it.
Yes, Leelee "I don't look like Helen Hunt" Sobieski plays the incestuous lolita.
The biggest crime about the censored orgy scenes is that it's the last time we will ever see the signature Kubrick long elegant tracking shot. I just kept looking at those damn inserts thinking "Go away!"
Kubrick was notorious for fiddling and re-cutting his movies up to and after the film's release, so I think it's safe to say the final product of EWS is not what we would have seen 4 months later had K lived.
The ultimate benchmark for EWS is that it is a deadly dull experience to sit through.
I found all the glowing lamps and bulbs pretty distracting, actually.
***SPOILER ALERT*** LAST LINE COMING FOR GW:
