Women be shoppin'
The Westboro Church protested my friend's funeral after he was killed by an IED in Iraq. The unmitigated gall of these people astounds me. I never thought I'd say this, but thank god for the 'Patriot Guard,' a group of bikers (I think mostly veterans) who showed up and blocked protesters' access to Church grounds…
So on that note, I recently discovered I loved Raymond Chandler books. Any suggestions on where to look next for hard-boiled detectives. And don't tell me James Patterson. Alex Cross novels are decent, but Cross is NOT hard boiled.
When we were watching this, my son asked me if the Indian (?) physicist's little boy was going to die, and I said no, they never show kids dying in these movies. Then when he does, my kid said; "I thought you said he wouldn't die." To which I replied, "I meant the WHITE kids never died."
The successful boyfriend
You just KNEW that poor bastard was gonna die the first time you saw him. "Hi, I'm the genial, not-all-that-memorable boyfriend. I'm sure that this movie isn't going to end with me sacrificing myself for the good of the family…"
18th century philosopher = BJs? I'm missing the connection, here.
I LOVE Japanese Gojira movies. And not in an ironic 'aren't these stupid?' way. No, I enjoy watching them. Another American(?) or at least a non-Toho Studio remake is a terrible idea. I prefer my giant radioactive monsters non-CG, thank you.
I loved this movie. Thought it was almost sublime in its lampooning of the high-school drama class/drama teacher dynamics.
Please tell me that 'Secret Blanket' was not something that Billy Corgan referred to at some point in time. I still like listening to the pumpkins.
They had to check the scenery for bite-marks left by Armand Asante after every take. True story.
I was unaware
That 'going wenching' was a thing. That's a thing? We can do that? Lets go!
The ending book 7 was the first time I've ever been 'stunned' by the final pages of a book before. I remember staying up all night to finish it, and realizing how Roland fit in to the multiverse and tower mythology (as far as I interpreted the ending) was enlightening and unsettling. I think it was a masterful…
Which one was he a 'feudin with?
Was it Murray vs. Aykroyd or Murray vs. Ramis? We all remember the epic Murray vs. Lu, though.
@Tanooki Suit Riot: References to 80's skate boarding movies staring Christian Slater? You just made my week.
Let me get this straight
So Adult Swim passed on Spacecataz, yet green-lit the Mighty Boosh? Somehow I'm not surprised.
'80's-Style' gay panic!? Always funny. Except when its not.
Zach Handlen
Hit the nail on the head. I realized I was getting to-old-for-this-shit when the protagonists in my favorite movies turn out to be younger than I am. When the zombie apocalypse hits, I want to be the hero, not the feeble old man who gets eaten in the first act.
Has anyone noticed that the crappier the news/topic contained in the article, the more likely it is that the first two or three threads will be comprised almost entirely of failed firsties and calls for fierycanceraids?
Um, I don't at all mind Zach Braff. Is that a bad thing? Should I turn in my hipster D-bag card? Or can I make atonement by listening to the Decembrists for the rest of the day?
