I think I'm doing this more for personal reasons. There's really no guarantee of a job after school is done (I live in the U.S.). But yeah, I might as well be miserable with a goal in mind, rather than being miserable in my current hamster wheel.

You're reminding me of a friend to who went to grad school at Harvard and had an easier time than he did as an undergrad at a different school.
