Beatles, Bill Hicks
My uncle bought me the Beatles' "Blue Album" (1967-1970) for Christmas in 1980. I was 8. It set me on my path toward being a music obsessive.
Rand al'Thor. Done.
And The Surrounding Mountains
I played the hell out of ATSM when it came out, but haven't checked any of their others out. Looks like I'm due to give them another go.
Marillion? Really? A band that desperately wanted to be Genesis?
Smurf
Well smurf me in my mothersmurfing smurf. If the drive-in was still smurf in my town, I'd just have to smurf smurf these smurfs.

Hammer No More?
Hey! I saw Hammer No More The Fingers earlier this year. They're from Durham/Chapel Hill area. They're not bad, actually.
Ah, dang it, beat me to it. Oh well, at least Stereolab rots because they have no guitars.
Low
While not told from the first person point of view, Low's "Rope" has always seemed pretty brutal to me. The entire lyric (the first line is repeated many times, until the second is delivered near the end):
