For some reason I always thought Eagle Lake was loosely based on Lake Geneva.  It's got that same kind of rustic old-money resort town feel.  I know Peter Straub is from Milwaukee and went to school in Madison.  He uses "Mill" a lot in his fictional towns (Milburn, etc), but I've always thought Mill
