Using irrelevant data is still an empirical thing, though. They weren't interpreting dreams or casting bones, they were looking at data collected by a variety of sources and trying to find trends. That's the very essence of empiricism, actually.

So… It's pretty much Criminal Minds, but with NCIS agents and Navy/Marine/Whatever deaths? Because that whole "team of agents crisscross the country" thing is pretty much Criminal Minds, but without the serial killers (though they'll still be some, because it's a modern procedural).
