I've been tossing this idea of how and why GoT is structured differently around in my head for a while and it just now occurred to me that The Wire is a nice comparison.

Game of Thrones takes it even further than a lot of serialized shows. It really is like a novel for TV. Something like Breaking Bad or Lost took care to tell a single story within the confines of each episode, even as each episode built up to something larger. There was a goal that was resolved, or a single story that…

I was thinking about that and something Todd wrote a while back. He said something about how GoT is better at creating individual moments than it is fully formed seasons. I wonder if that focus on/ability to create single moments makes certain episodes stand out so much?

My list! I stuck to my "one episode per show" rule, otherwise there would have definitely been some more Game of Thrones, Better Call Saul, and Galavant.

I would say that "The Winds of Winter" is up there on "Mizumono"'s level, but "Blackwater" is probably the weakest of the group.

Yeah, this could very easily be the cinematic version of Legends of Tomorrow, where I recognize the flaws but it makes me so happy that the critical side of my brain gets totally overridden.
