This episode was all over the place. But I completely agree with you on Mark Gatiss. They've slowly done this all along, but I think this is the first time we see Mycroft as a fully formed human being - not just as a kind of automaton who has a soft spot for his brother. I particularly liked the bit of the opening

Ben Daniels was an absolute highlight of the series for me. I've been a fan of his for a long time and was so excited when he showed up in this one. He has not disappointed. He did more while tied to a chair than most actors can do in their entire careers.
