Dolly and the dangers of crossing over
This feature is quickly becoming a favorite at the AV Club. Nabin did a good job here in balancing the brilliant work Parton could achieve as a C&W star when she was at the top of her game and what dreck she could sink to when she thought it was in the interest of furthering her

The Doomsday Machine/ST: The Motion Picture
Zack,

"he's now stripped betrayed by his own biology" should be divided by a comma or a dash.

SanQ,

If the story sounds far-fetched to you, then you do not know anything about Sammy Davis Jr. I would be more surprised to hear Davis was in the audience and did not do exactly that.

The poor doomed bum
What if it turned out that the death-by-phaser of the guy in the alley was the reason things went wrong? Maybe he later drank some tainted rum and kept it from getting to Eisenhower, or something…

The TV show would disappoint you, Nabin. On the one hand it had none of the charm of the book, but on the other it also was not an abomination that would make it memorable. It was just a typical mediocre '70s sitcom, and rightfully forgotten.

"Save the whales" (ST:IV) was a fun movie. Are we supposed to not like it now?

I'm not sure that a term used as loosely as "concept album" can actually have a breaking point.

Willie Nelson's Genre-Hopping Endeavors
I am looking forward to the next edition from the series.

Hey Carnie D,

Johnny Cash himself claimed to have pioneered the C&W concept album.

Why did you let go of his Law & Order evasion?
You bring up Law & Order and he compliments his driver?! Clearly he was avoiding saying who he did NOT like — and that person most likely is Dick Wolf. Noel, why did you not follow up? It would have been a very interesting story.

Good call.

Cash was a performer and he cultivated his image. That much is true. But you would be hard pressed to point to a single statement or performance he made that could be labeled as inauthentic.

Yes, it is the John Prine song, and Cash absolutely owns it.

The Jetsons were not the Flintstones in the future. They were Blondie in the future. George was Dagwood and Jane was Blondie. The actress who voiced Jane also played Blondie on the radio and in the movies.
