I don't care for Lackthereof, but Tithe and Dirty Cartoons are two of my favorite tracks from Mines. I mostly enjoy Ramona Falls, but I think they all work better as a team.

You know who is really hurt by the dismantling of Christmas? Those poor pagans they stole the "Christmas" tree from. Won't someone please think of the pagans?

@avclub-5b7e0a1ad5d9ac9ef3063b05f55b6d31:disqus I had no idea Stuart Murdoch was a practicing Christian. But, now all the Christian references in their music make more sense.

At least Judd Apatow can admit he basically just makes the same movie over and over. Funny People was dreadful, but I'd be willing to see his new movie.

@avclub-09dbda0ec297f8e1fb8fa397efd0f70a:disqus "Being jarring" has nothing to do with my distaste for that album. I'm stealing this from @apodoctopus:disqus re: The Age of Adz: "The album's self-indulgent in the worst way. His vocals are way too prominent in the arrangements. He seems to think he has the voice to…

If you think "twee" and "religious" are mutually exclusive, you must not have heard about the Joy Electric.

Yeah, you're right. Mumford and Sons are pretty twee, and Avett Bros have some twee elements, but they have more of a rock aesthetic, than say, Belle and Sebastian. But I can see how my personal definition of twee may vary from others'.

You've got dead ears, mate. I felt the album was oblique and conceited. Futile Devices and Impossible Soul were the best parts of that album, though Impossible Soul was trying just a little bit too hard. The rest was un-listenable. Especially Too Much, which sounded like a rehash of a Postal Service song, but with…

It's mostly unironic. The people in my peer group who loved "Garden State" loved Sufjan. Now I'm mostly embarrassed for enjoying that shit, but I imagine everyone who loved Ace of Base and Aqua in the 90's are similarly embarrassed.

His timing was impeccable, but I'm amazed anyone still cares about him. He made super-twee indie folk before everyone got sick of that (2005), and hasn't done anything worthwhile since.

I don't usually ask people about their ethnicity, but I overheard a friendly-acquaintance in one of my lectures talking on his cell phone in what I thought was Turkish. I asked if he was from Turkey (he was), and he was really surprised and pleased I guessed correctly.
