Everyone has some level of racism, conscious or unconscious. It's everyone else's duty to loudly and repeatedly call "bullshit" whenever those feelings are aired. Everyone sucks, but not because of the color of their skin.

I think it depends on how you start grading. If you assume every albums deserves an A and loses points for sucking, then a B- is extremely low for this album. If you assume every album deserves an F and add points for greatness, a B- is only moderately low.

As far as I can tell, "earnestness" was the only reason listed that could've hurt the grade.

I didn't believe this grade could be accurate, so I double-checked the numbers.
Exultant anthems and effusive positivity: 9/10
Brassy horns: 9/10
Gushy sentiment: 8/10
Unapologetic riffs on ’80s and ’90s dance beats: 10/10
Stadium-hushing interludes: 7/10
Full-force push for newer and brighter horizons: 9/10
Earnestness

I think the AV Club is trying to synchronize their ratings with Pitchfork's "If I didn't literally climax while listening to this it doesn't deserve an 'A'" standard.

I have a really high tolerance for police dramas and bad British TV, but I couldn't make it past a few of episodes of the original Life on Mars.

Much like British TV, where a bunch of ugly weirdos can be actors, I appreciate Hot Chip because a bunch of ugly weirdos can be pop stars.

I feel like I agree with you until I listen to the albums. When they're playing I have a hard time skipping any tracks. Even their "bad" tracks are still pretty good.

I'm confused too. I thought the appeal of reality TV for producers is that it requires no scripting or actors. Writing dialogue and multiple takes sounds like the waste of time reality TV was supposed to prevent.
