That killed me when I watched Goldfinger recently (after seeing Skyfall I've started running through them all again from he beginning), nothing SCREAMS mid 60's like being able to casually slag off the Beatles.

This is so scarily similar to my experience. I saw Skyfall on the day after it opened and it was an amazing experience. First time I've ever been in a screening where people applauded the film.

Is that a proper Bond theme though? Would be my second choice, but unless I'm not remembering correctly it's not the song playing over the titles?

It's probably Moore's Goldfinger in terms of iconic images. Jaws, the skiing followed by Union Jack parachute escape, the amphibious Lotus Esprit etc.

That's why it varies for me. I'm very fond of campy Bond, but it's probably my least favourite in that category. When I'm in a distinctly campy Roger Moore mood then it definitely hauls itself into the middle tier.

Fair enough. Apart from that I'd say your theory's pretty good, assuming Eve is considered the Bond girl in Skyfall.

Moonraker is the classic trashy entertaining Bond film. It's James Bond…. IN SPACE! I have a soft spot for Live And Let Die because it was the first non-Brosnan film I saw (Goldeneye was the first one I saw on VHS (which manages to even make me feel old)) and was the ultimate in escapism for 7/8 year old me.

Casino Royale - Vesper dies. Your theory is null and void.
