Annie hasn't regressed though, she has and always will be a romantic and that is what was being outlined in ep 4x03. The point was that Jeff was interchangeable for any guy she liked or has liked in the past.

That A/A stuff is reaching to the highest degree. They barely have a basis in canon outside of crackshippers and you are choosing to try focus on some non existent subtext while characters like annie are blatantly flirting with a different character front and center.

To put it bluntly. No, they were never set up for anything and the only people who do think that are delusional shippers.
