Yeah, I saw no reason for that unfairly dismissive write-up. 9 episodes in and I don't think The Knick has anything to do with the Ray Donovans of the world.

Because everyone knows this show is taking a time slot away from the heir to the Breaking Bad throne that ABC was planning to air Friday nights at 8:30.
I'm intrigued because of Laurie Metcalfe but also because there's a gay main character on a brash CBS family sitcom? It almost sounds subversive.
There seem to be a lot more people named Marcus on TV lately. I'm glad BBC America's Intruders will never be in the general pop culture conversation because the Marcus on there is an evil man in a little girl's body voicing his love of the various tits he encounters through the mouth of a 10-year-old

The thought of grinding topless on Woody Harrelson being a better showcase for her acting talents than anchoring a show where she gets to play multiple characters is just…I have no idea how to process that.
Are any of you the least bit sad about Harrison being gone?
I also thought they pushed way too hard on Huck in that funeral scene. I get that he compartmentalizes his life to allow it to make more sense situationally, but he was verging on infantile.
Also, rugs are heavy!
Um, it's a show about examining racial identity in America and what that even means any more. It's going to come up a lot, which makes me want to compare it to Norman Lear's sitcoms from the 70s, which were also direct. I'm sure there will be normal situation comedy plots but the pilot has to act as the show's thesis.
Malcom Jamal-Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross already played a couple on BET's short-lived "Reed Between the Lines." It seemed like there was some internal drama on that show too.
It's almost like they're heightening something for dramatic effect on television!
Even though the fall season is becoming a relic, I still adhere to tradition and watch every single pilot on network television out of some sort of madness. I am not going to watch this though. It just can't possibly offer anything new and seeing CCH Pounder wasted is too depressing.
I wish Scott Bakula had kept up his…
Honestly assumed it was Josh Gad all summer.
Would rather watch a show about Parade Magazine's Marilyn vos Savant to be completely honest.
The thing about The Strain is that I find it way more fun to watch than The Walking Dead, but it also lets me know that The Walking Dead could be so much worse than it actually is.
Conclusion: Why do I watch either, and why do I have no plans to stop?
Still trying to figure out the greater purpose of casting Regina King.
I never fast forward through TV but I broke my own rule with those scenes too. Knew he wouldn't die (what a shame) and just couldn't stand watching slowly unfolding stupidity like that.
"things like The Shield."
I felt like Extant had a run in the middle where it was becoming truly interesting and now it's just mush. You can tell they didn't budget very well either because it's starting to look like garbage (whereas the first few were pretty visually impressive). I also don't know how this show would even do a second season…
