Spaceballs has a following because the movies it lampoons appeal to a very forgiving audience. But it is ultimately a failure and the first nail in the Mel Brooks coffin. Everything that came after is shit, most of the films that came before it were good.

I agree. There Will Be Blood was NOT pretentious. Pretentious movies are self-important and take themselves far to seriously. Blood was an effortlessly great movie.

1997: As Good As It Gets and Good Will Hunting were both overrated crap, LA Confidential should have won. Watch all those movies today (Titanic too) and tell me which ones have aged well
