I think this was the first time this was established.  I don't think there's ever been a canonical reference to a specific Klingon lifespan.  Since their cultural motto seems to be die young and leave a scary-looking corpse, this maybe isn't a surprise.

I was about to make that point.  Zack, I think you missed the point that these aren't one-shot guest stars.  There was an intentional resonance here with these same characters from TOS.  The shortcomings of Serious Dax may have more to do with the fact that this story was as much (or more) about them than it was about

the hell?

Umm… Did someone have a gun to your head?  Or did you take creative writing at some kind of unaccredited college in the late '90s?

I was just trying to remember that title for my 2011 Favorite Reads list.  Thanks!

Rory Calhoun?

2001 and Star Trek: The Motion Picture sort of live in the same headspace for me. They both contain beautifully artistic shots in a science fiction setting, epic in scope, set to a majestic score. They also both have major pacing issues if you're relying on the plot to entertain you. This isn't to say that 2001

But I'm guessing that guessing you did!

Young 13
So aside from the fact that her chief acting talent is also looking dully at things, I wasn't buying the child 13. Maybe it was the chubbiness factor that just wasn't matching up well with our hero.

DISTRACTION
My normal litmus test for how into a show I am is how excitedly I wait for new material. I honestly anticipate next week's episode of House or Lost or whatever, and I actually find myself watching (or listening to) the commercials so that I don't miss any content.

Every time I think of that thing, I want to puke.
