I highly recommend the books this show was based on, by Mark Billingham.  Lifeless in particular is all kinds of great.

+1 on Last of the Mohicans.  Mann's tinkering completely ruined the flow of the fight between Chingachgook and Magua.

I'll say it now, I actually enjoyed Assignment Miami Beach.  There, that's a huge weight off.
