This felt so paint by the numbers to me. Plus something about the setup seemed to sap any tension from the end of the show. I never felt like either side was in danger of getting slaughtered or that Godsacre was going to be pointlessly killed by the Empress after it was clear he posed no threat whatsoever.

With the kids, I think some of that is to do with the writing of the characters in the books but there's more to differentiate them later so hopefully it will be less of a problem. It doesn't help that they are the straight people to a load of eccentric adults and it can make them seem bland.

I can't wait for the second season of this. I hope Netflix makes the show all the way through to the end and stays reasonable faithful to what the Bauds get up to.

Yes, agreed. Why do they need consent? Why are they committed enough to run simulations and show off their power but then leave the second the plan falters? It just didn't ring true because it seems like they would have been well-placed to wreak some havoc on the way out.

It would be hard for the show to redeem Missy/The Master and have them live because the Doctor is already so powerful on his own. You put both of them together and the characters as established would spend five minutes wiping the floor with most enemies/threats and the other forty gloating ;-)

They can't be lasting friends and have the Master live though, they'd have too much power.
