This is interesting to me because I know it's an option as a private individual/company but can the President break the law and then settle quietly with the Supreme Court?

It wouldn't have been about upsetting Trump so much as reassuring our UK population that they will draw the line against what I'll call "nasty fascist shit". But clearly she doesn't want to rule it out. I'm disappointed but not surprised.

I think it's got quite a lot to do with people believing we need to spend less money as a country and thinking there aren't enough jobs and infrastructure to go around. The Tories have spent the last seven years or so using this rhetoric and sadly some people have believed it.

This reminds me of a great and relevant Bugle quote from John Oliver that "Conservatives are basically Republicans without the courage of their convictions" ;-) So that's exactly why I thought she might condemn it. And pragmatically if we tried something this awful and fascist the NHS would collapse pretty quickly

I thought I read Executive Orders couldn't be used to do illegal stuff, so how does this work legally?

"At least Trump's executive order could easily be reversed with the stroke of a pen."

That wasn't a dig at you personally. I just like to make this point when fake news gets brought up because adults should mostly a) know better and b) take some responsibility for being informed. While the election was being fought time and time again I saw people attacking word for word reporting of Trump's words and

It really was sickening. And not condemning it, considering that we voted for Brexit and have a lot of citizens who may feel vulnerable in the UK right now was cowardly and concerning.

This is a hobby-horse of mine for here (UK) as well but what will it take to get a leader who has some fvcking respect for privacy and civil liberties?

And that's why you don't elect vile people.

Yikes.

The creepy America First rhetoric was basically anti-semitic code back in the day, wasn't it?

I'd say we have the capacity to do great good and great evil and that when a mob feels threatened and goes into an ugly mood, they need to be handled with extreme care. And that's why you don't elect a Trump :-(

This doesn't address the worrying fact of the ugly mood of millions of people that lead them to vote for this.

And let's not forget if you go out of the way to read blatant lies that cater to your own specific version of reality, you are responsible for your own ignorance really.

It's affecting a lot of people already from what I've read.

I'm glad the AVC has covered this. It is awful news and a scary starting point. Hopefully it will be overturned in your courts and soon.

This may embolden other countries to follow suit. It is a bad, bad day.

Portia De Rossi would be great as Esme.

Thanks for the very fun descriptions.
