Finally watched this episode. And the Catholic imagery didn't bug me as much as it did you, Todd. To me it came off more as a superstitious ritual by a nervous jockey getting called up to the Show and trying to allay her fears. Could've been Jobu from Major League and it would've read the same to me.
I watched the kick 4 times. Twas the Shaklaika of this episode.

I normally do not like Mr. Davies at all, but I really do like him as Dickie. His annoying habit of over-gesticulating with his arms has finally found a character that shtick works with.
He's sitting at home thinking to himself, "Oh! THAT's how it's done."
One one of the reasons I love this show. Those seemingly throw away moments that speaks volumes.
