If you want to get intellectual about this show, then there we are. We're discussing another sitcom. You're describing Ray Romano or Homer Simpson.

I'm worried that this is just another sitcom with a couple good introductory episodes. The characters aren't complex, the background has become a backdrop, we have nobody to root for, and (worst of all) this episode wasn't funny.

I coincidentally re-watched that episode this evening (24 days after your reply, but I'm just now reading it :P) and didn't catch that, but now I'll totally have to go back and look for that.

Was the laser pointer bit really the saving grace of the episode for this reviewer? I only saw it as something that had been done a hundred other times in sitcoms (Seinfeld comes to mind). While having them all meet at the fountain was dumb and contrived, I thought the rest of the episode was great.
