I agree. I think a lot of the hatred towards Brooks comes from not so much what he did as what he started.

or the SNL sketch "Tiny Elvis." Sweet Jebus, that needs to be on YouTube.

The voice of dissent
I think you're right about the film's goals and subversive nature but the bottom line for me is this: I found it stupid and unfunny. I can't move past that fact. Then I think about the other films these people are responsible for: The Flinstones in Viva Las Vegas, Surviving Christmas, and Made of

Desert-loving English
This probably started with my favorite movie of all time, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, but I have a real soft spot for films set in desolate and/or treacherous regions from the Victorian age to just after the first World War. Although they need not be exclusively colonial, they often are. Or anything

Another good starting point

Honestly, the AV Club, Videogum, and the Daily Dish make up about 75% of my web-at-work surfing.

Heartworn Highways
Not sure where it would fit in here, but its worth watching if you've not seen it. Its available on Netflix.

Humpday
Everyone seems to like this movie significantly more than I. At my screening, the audience was guffawing constantly but I had trouble finding most of it funny. I found it more depressing than amusing. It seemed to me a sad movie about cowardice, jealousy, self-delusion and regret. Though I will say the acting
