like you, i was initially kind of dismayed at how typical the "movie gender role" stuff was for such a clever movie, but thinking about it further, im absolutely sure it was done *very* intentionally. Emmet goes exactly through the heros journey. Wyldstyle is manic pixie dream girl down to the exact wikipedia

i enjoyed the murder mystery, but totally agreed on the other points. the show has done a fantastic job so far of avoiding the dipping into cliched single episode backstory/resolution stuff, and this whole homeless father business ("no, not that one, my other father… the one i never mentioned") was pretty poorly

ah, in earlier articles it had been implied that Sigourney Weaver, Helen Mirren and a bunch of other alpha females were already attached. or maybe i just dreamed this, who knows.

meh, why not? its not like its going to be worse than other action movies. this at least is novel and has an interesting cast.

physical books. i obsessively read when i was in high school, often 2-3 books a week. Mostly crap sci fi or horror initially, but as habits generally go, it rapidly expanded into just about everything. Any author I remotely enjoyed I would read straight through their entire catalog. Then any author I would even hear

Mozart in the Jungle seems amazing. I didn't even know Amazon did interesting things! Other than riding around in segways and flying sex toys to your door via drone copter i mean.

disagree completely.

id watch that. ARE YOU LISTENING, MOVIE GODS?

ill agree to that, i like Craigy! i guess i consider him more in the realm of Daily Show or Colbert, which i suppose also count as late night talk show hosts, but never would even conceieve of in the same sentence as Leno/Letterman/Conan/Kimmel, etc

I've never really understood the Jay Leno hate. Sure, he's bland, but good lord so is every other late night show host. As you say, Jay at least seems to care. During "the controversy" everyone was doing that #TeamCoco stuff, but goddamn… how bad is Conan's show now? I don't even blame NBC for sending him packing to

i thought she was FANTASTIC kill bot material. Icy cold stare, great movements and very competent action scenes. I got that original terminator vibe almost immediately. I really hope we see more Danicas! Since she's a relatively big name AND they did that "humanizing" scene with the little girl in the taxi, im

something that i was surprised to see go unmentioned in the article or comments was the well-executed role-reversal that takes place in the first half: Sherlock is playing the sober companion and, whether he admits it or not, is to wrapped up in "the case of Randy's sobriety" to be of much use to the nanosaurus case;

WOW. this really is going to be awful isnt it?

exactly! that'd be like Brazil but for writers

im sad to say this, and it may be hard to accept, but you need to face reality sir: both the Koreans and Japanese have thoroughly out-paced us in both potato chip AND kit-kat bar flavors, to say nothing of those damn little pocky sticks. thankfully they are our allies… for now.

the fact that av club can go from badly shopped Jennifer Lawrence doritos addiction to tangentially, shoe-honed Dune references in A MERE 10 COMMENT THREADS is why i keep coming back here.

i think he's talking about the producers taking it too seriously, not the audience. imagine how terrible it would be to have to write this stuff if your bosses werent in on the joke and somehow thought this was going to be critically acclaimed or something.

i think they chilled out on the ridiculously severe makeup they usually put on her, specifically the raccoon eyeliner. Im sure the producers have seen at least some of the 10,000 tumblr posts and nasty comments about how terrible she was starting to look :/ Anyway, its a welcome change.

im just psyched that this solidifies michael jai white as having a concrete recurring role. sure the wolverine knock-off is cheesy, but… cmon its friggin micheal jai white! hes about as perfect for a show like this as you can get.

reading through the comments here, it's hard not to notice how hostile the fans of this show are. multiple threads of people calling others stupid for not agreeing with them, long posts insulting the reviewer for daring to bring up criticism (in a B grade review? really?) and more down-votes than I think I've ever
