And it was a conscious decision to set the show in a time and place of violence. It's not like they treat depicting violence as a sad but necessary obligation to the truth.

But let's be fair - the middle ages are also known for horrific diseases and crushing tedium. They're putting their focus on what they think is most dramatic and exciting.

I don't know why that Kate Mara is bugging me so much, but she is. Maybe because she looks more like a club girl than a young journalist? Maybe because the character is some weird journalism robot, with no human qualities? Maybe because she doesn't have any of the relish or sense of fun that the best characters on the

I like a lot about this show, but you really have to be willing to just accept the premises the show lays out and not question them too much.

Oddly enough, my Dwayne Johnson slash novel begins with "He was stuck between The Rock and a hard spot."

Carlin also had a lovable grouch quality that made it easy to forgive the parts of his act that missed. Hicks was more self-righteous - he kind of reminded me of a middle school teacher that seems angry and funny

I'm three episodes in, and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. I think it can suffer from being compared to The Sopranos and the shows that followed it. It's clearly built on that model, but it's far less ambitious. But taken on its own terms, it's sleazy, hammy, and really enjoyable.

"You look like you're thirteen."
"Marry me.

After 9/11, everyone you talked to had a theory on why their home might be next. My family in Buffalo was afraid terrorists would attack niagra falls.

I used to feel that way, but I think he's a really good straight man. I probably wouldn't  have stuck with a show that's just him trying to be funny, but he's really good at working with other comedians, and adapting to them.

When you are in high school, you are basically forced to socialize (or attempt to socialize) with a bunch of people who are not good matches for you, and who are also not very good at socializing yet.

Definitely the Flop House. Their tangents are funnier and their movie takedowns are smarter.

That's a fantastic story, and Kevin Smith tells it really well. I also love that he answers an audience member's question with a 45 minute story.

This show is good for running and driving and doing dishes, but I'm not sure I can sit down and watch an episode start to finish.
