There was a streak of weird, absurdist humor running through the 80s. I was going to make the Bloom County comparison too, along with Far Side. Night Court seemed to fit in with those sensibilities and that's why I loved it at first.

It doesn't make sense, because more than ever with DVRs, when the show's playing shouldn't matter. For instance, I have no idea what night Brooklyn 99 is actually on anymore, I just watch an ep when I see it on my DVR queue.
