Then I sincerely hope that someday you will expose your kids to The Hold Steady. They are far and away my favorite band, and I have had their stuff in our family rotation for years.

Almost all of these ideas were present during my youth. I listened to all of the music that my very musical father listened to: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Al Jarreau… we were all over the map. My dad also used to listen to Weird Al with me, and always got me the CDs of any music I showed interest in.

I saw The Shins at Bumbershoot a few years ago, and they were the nicest band. They asked us if we would please do the wave and light our lighters, since they really wanted to know what that would be like while onstage. It was adorable.
