the 90s Image style gets a lot of flack, for very good reason, but when a Big 2 property is shown to ape that style it tends to get a pass as a winking mockery of it, instead of the desperate race to stay trendy and attract audience, which more often than not it was.

I will always mourn for the loss of Secret Six. Never read any Thunderbots/Dark Avengers. What're the comparisons/differences?

You refer to the later TV version featuring David Janssen—better known for his work as the lead on The Fugitive.  Diamond didn't have a secretary in the original radio show.

Fans of this show might want to look up radio's "Richard Diamond Private Eye" created by Blake Edwards. A similarly subtle meta-show, with similarly great sly performance by Dick Powell.

I think this ep' gets more derision then it deserves—it isn't great, but it's got a good core idea as explained by ToE.
I haven't seen it in ages, but I do remember thinking there was some deserved characterization regarding the idle children of the idle rich.  These three little Patrick Bateman's feel like real

I'm happy to see/read this! Long time OTR fan. Thank you Todd!

It could be because there is a company (Radio Spirits) that has filed copyright/ownership of his radio shows, so they don't turn up on archive.org or other sites. It's a total BS claim, but no one has the money to fight it. You can read a bit more here: http://www.archive.org/post…

I've said it before, you want to make a Venom movie, just do it as a monster-slasher flick ala Halloween or Friday the 13th. Venom doesn't have to be a goody-goody of any sort to carry a franchise. They could include as much or as little of the mythos as they wanted and people would go see it either way.

(seriously, Comic companies are evil about this shit. Wait 'til Mantlo dies, and they start reaping money from "tributes" to him.)

pointless joining in after the fact.
At my worst, I look like Shipwreck, and like everyone on the internet, I am horny.

Never picked up the ROM infatuation. It was a great iconic looking character, but I didn't latch onto it.  I remember the toy being pretty poorly articulated, that might have something to do with it.
Micronauts on the other hand, despite my general shrugging interest in epic-dynastic themed stories, is still a great

Reading thru the comments here, it's pretty obvious there needs to be a "For Our Consideration: Bill Mantlo" piece. It'd also give wider exposure to his current situation, provide a chance shed some more light on how dire it is.

Until this review and the comments I never thought about how full of holes this episode was—I tend to forget about it anyway.
Agree despite that, I do find it a pretty fun ride, it wins despite itself.

Agree that Metamorpho doesn't look too good animated, but it's tough to control how he plays against a given background when not on the static comic page. He got a redesign in the 2000s that actually made him pretty sweet/spooky lookin' where his color patches swirled into a sort of tattoo design. (here's a not great

I was going to add: any book that can make the reader want to see more Killer Shark rates. All over though, the work done to build and rehabilitate the cast into interesting protagonists deserves a lot more lauding then it gets.
I think perhaps Simone hurts herself for sometimes caustic lashing out at fandome, but I

Gail Simone's SECRET SIX should have made this list. End to end brilliance.

I agree that it's a bit much, but my specific problem with it is how they're going to use the juxtaposition to make Kate look like a selfish person, for trying to have a healthy love life, "How dare you get laid, letting your sidekick out of your sight!"  Which could later be used as a way to "neuter" her.

Had them at the venue I run, Trunk Space, they put on a pretty solid show for a neutral crowd.
